Here at Portsmouth Aviation we recognise that testing the integrity of any product is as important as the design and manufacture process. Changing environmental conditions, high stress situations and general wear and tear are all potential factors that can alter the behaviour of a product and here at Portsmouth Aviation we are able to provide post manufacture services that allow you to understand how your products will operate in real-life conditions.
Our expertise in Test House environments enables us to create dynamic and bespoke testing solutions so that, even if you have no idea how to get information relating to the limitations of your product, we can help you gather all of the data you need.
Test Facility
The testing facility has the capability to provide data for safe working load testing, proof load testing and destructive testing of materials and structures. Tensile, pressure and vacuum testing can also be carried out.
The testing facility has two test rigs that can be adapted to suit most of the requirements of our customers or we can create special purpose rigs for a particular configuration requirement.
The largest rig is capable of taking loads of up to 100 tonnes in two directions and 50 tonnes in all directions. It has a test area of 3.96 x 2.43 x 3.00 meters and has two built in 2 tonne hoists.
The smaller rig has a test area of 4 x 1.6 x 1.5 meters and has a longitudinally moveable lifting beam capable of lifting 10 tonnes. This rig was designed to trial small weapon loading vehicles.
Associated equipment
We have a large range of steel beams, link plates, strops and tie rods for special purpose rig and frame building.
A comprehensive inventory of calibrated test and measuring equipment includes dial test indicators, load cells 1-10 tonnes, hydraulic rams 2-30 tonnes, weights 200 gr-20 kg, electric/manual air/oil pressure pumps max 10,000 psi in oil/2,500 psi in air and a two channel chart recorder.
We also have other laboratories situated within the factory that are available for hardness and conductivity testing.
Limitations
The Test Bay entrance is restricted to a width of 2.28 mtrs x height 2.89 mtrs.
