The 655 Maintenance and Preservation Society is based at Wellesbourne Mountford airfield. They are dedicated to maintaining Avro Vulcan B Mk2 XM655 in a condition to enable taxi runs to be carried out. The society approached Portsmouth Aviation with regard to any information and assistance that could be provided with regards to the aircrafts role as a conventional bomber. The society have obtained a Vulcan 7 store carrier which was used to carry and load the aircraft with equipment, they also have the hydraulic rig needed to raise this equipment to the aircraft. Portsmouth Aviation were fortunate to be able to provide copies of Air Publications pertaining to the loading equipment. Portsmouth Aviation also donated examples of some of the equipment used. It is the societies intention to use the Portsmouth Aviation supplied equipment to produce a mould for lightweight examples and eventually demonstrate how the aircraft was loaded. Portsmouth Aviation has offered their assistance if the intention to load comes to fruition as there are personnel within the company who have experience of loading the aircraft.
